CARNAGE AT HAKKARİ YÜKSEKOVA - Turkish General Staff said on Sunday 23 Kurdish separatist terrorists and 12 Turkish soldiers had been killed in clashes near the Iraqi border (Some reports put the death toll as high as 16). The terrorists attacked the military unit, based near the Turkish town of Yüksekova, in Hakkari province, with heavy machinery, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported. The attack came four days after Turkish Parliament passed a motion allowing its military to launch an offensive into neighboring northern Iraq to stamp out separatist terrorists of the oulawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, hiding there. Turkish leaders have said that the motion did not mean that Turkey would immediately order a cross-border offensive. However, patience has been wearing thin and the latest attack is likely to increase calls for the military to stage an incursion. Prime Minister Erdoğan disclosed that a security summit would convene at 20:00 hours tonight at Çankaya Presidential Palace.
